Subject: The Great Adventure South

Episode 9 I believe.

Subject: The Great Adventure South (North)

Ahoy Everyone - Magic is trying to sail north to Annapolis. Departed
Key West 03/28 for Marathon and have been here ever since. The wind is
not cooperating insisting on NE or E @ 10 - 20 knts mostly 20 knts.
Would surely love to do some sailing so we are waiting for a little SE

If we are lucky. We might be able to leave on Friday. Marathon harbor
is really a wonderful community of boaters. Every morning there is a
cruiser's net on Channel 68. Very informative and every evening they
blow conch shells to welcome the sunset. I'm looking to buy a conch
horn and getting instruction on how to blow it. Every Wednesday there
is a "Meet & Greet" party so we are going tonight. I'm taking along a
1.75 leader bottle of Merlot that I was suppose to use as payment for
dinghy oars but the guy never showed up to receive. I can't drink red
wine. Hope it's a hit with someone. Our temps are 80's during the day
and 70's at night (perfect). We have a beautiful beach (Sombero Beach)

Just a short dinghy ride thru Sister's Creek which is lined with
mangroves. There is a West Marine reached by dinghy and the library
is just 2 blocks away. The Publix (grocery store) is 1 mile. Not a
bad place to be waiting for a weather window. We are very sick of all
the wind this trip.

Our grandson came down for a 4 day visit on spring break. We swam with
the dolphins in Grassy Key Dolphin Research Center. Tom and I did this
way back in 1990's. The center has changed a great deal since then and
is greatly inlarged. We swam with a mother and baby. Jeff said "Nana
this is the most fun I have ever had in my whole life". We played
miniture golf and toured Mel Fischer's treasure museum and the
Wreckers Museum. Took the Conch train tour of Key West and went
snorkling on the beach. He also did a lot of shopping for "useless
junk" spending his own money. He had his picture taken at the birdman
booth holding a parrot, 2 cockatoo's & an Iguana. He was thrilled. We
were up late at night and up early in the morning. He found a coconut
and wanted to take it home on the plane but the airline said it was
food and a weapon so he had to leave it behind with Nana promising to
mail it asap. Cost $12 to mail and you address it right on the coconut
shell. Great time was had by all!!!

Signing off for now. Wish us luck with the winds so we can start
north, although it will be hard to leave the swaying palms and summer
temps. We are so tan by now that we do not burn in the sun anymore.
