The Great Adventure South
Ahoy Everyone - Sorry for the long time in between e-mail's but we laid
the boat up in Palm Coast, FL and rented a car to drive home for
Xmas/New Years. Kind of a spur of the moment ideal. We were gone for a
month. On the way to Palm Coast we made a stop at St. Augustine and
did some sightseeing. You can by a ticket good for 3 days and ride the
tour train around the town to sightsee. I did some Ripley's Believe It
or Not shopping for Xmas, etc. Cute quaint town much like Annapolis.
Spent 2 nights there.
12/10 Departed for Palm Coast. We had a slip next to a sailboat named
the Black Pearl Ahgggg! They had a parrot that made the sound of a
cell phone ringing. Drove me nuts till I figured out it was the parrot
making the noise. Very funny.
12/12 Departed with rental car for Annapolis.
1/6/08 Departed Annapolis for Palm Coast. Can't believe it's 2008.
01/07 Arrived at boat. Boat in great shape but needed to be completely
restocked. Our friends Rocky and Susie Rockwell made some friends at
Palm Coast when they were down here cruising. We got their names and
gave them a call. Phil and Sarah Lowe took us to a fun gathering in a
home where a master garderner lived. We picked our own oranges for
mimosa's amd had some very tasty snacks. Then went back to Phil and
Sarah's house for dinner and to watch the football playoffs. They
were so gracious to us. Hopefully we can see them on the way back this
spring.
01/15 Departed for New Symrna Beach City Marina. Good weather window
but windy again.
01/16 Lying City Marina. Repaired our backstay adjuster that was
leaking and rode the water taxie to Ponce DeLeon Inlet Lighthouse.
Climbed lighthouse on very windy day. Very scary but I wanted a
picture of this incredible inlet. Would never attempt to enter here
from the ocean. We had to stay here thru Saturday waiting for the
backstay adjuster to be fixed. Very nice 1920/30's type town. Walked
to the beach about 3 miles I would guess. Beach was beautiful . Cars
drive on beach just like Daytona. Put my tootsies in the water. Yea
the oceans. Had tornado warnings while here. We've had some crazy
weather with all the cold fronts blowing thru every 2 days it seems.
01/21 Depart for the Space Coast (Titusville) and their city marina.
Traveled 32.1 st miles. Weather low 70's and sunny. Ran into friends
we made on the waterway but have not seen since before Xmas. Those
were the fiends on Water Walker from Canada. Did some grocery shopping
here to restock.
01/23 Departed for Melbourn in calm weather. We tried our new anchor
for the first time and anchored just south of the causeway bridge
outside Melbourn. Calm night and the anchor held well. At least we are
alive to tell the tale.
01/24 Departed for Vero Beach City Marina due to another cold front
arriving tonight. Vero Beach is the best stop yet. Free bus service
all over town and to the beach. Using the internet at the library
right now and almost out of time to send this. We are planning to
spent one more night here and the it's off to points south to be
decided. We are getting about 2 or 3 days between these fronts to
travel so we are really trying to push to get to Key West. We also are
planning to meet up with the Marla and Gene Miers very soon.
01/25 Lying Vero Beach - Going shopping today and learning the bus and
transfer system. Weathered quite a storm last night with winds 20 to
25 ktns. Very glad we took a slip rather than a mooring buoy. We will
get another weather window for Sat/Sun so will travel those 2 days.
They're kicking me off the computer now so got to go. Will try to find
more WiFi soon. Not missing work at all..........
