Friday Night Race participation is high! We had 12 boats racing on July 9th. Competition is heating up, but friendly. I encourage all of you come out and watch, or race. There are still a few slots open for race committee volunteers as well as a chance every Friday to test out yourself and your boat on the course. This Friday, the 16th, is Youth Sailing Night. This is a great opportunity to get the kids involved and nurture enthusiasm for sailing as well as foster good boat handling skills! So volunteer your boat and join us!
Our next cruise is to Whitehall Bay (Ridout Creek) on Saturday and Sunday, July 17th and 18th. This was a well attended cruise last year featuring perfect weather, even better company and superb food. Come join us. I'm looking forward to a repeat of last year’s good time. Ron, our Cruise Chair, has been putting together delightful cruises again this year. Thanks Ron!
Last but least, is the YCCSC Summer Picnic (July 31). Mary and Theresa are doing a stupendous job! They are putting together series of games and events - there will be kayak and inflatable races and kids events! Bring or wear your bathing suit, and plan to keep cool participating in these events! We are also having a Dessert Contest this year so start hunting up that perfect desert (there goes my summer diet!). Bring a side or bring a desert - oh heck, bring both if you want. We are working on bringing in Live Music - it’s a work in progress so show up to find out who will be playing! Like last year the picnic is at my house on the Little Magothy. The water depth thru the channel and up to my pier is a good 4 feet so a lot of you could come by boat if you so decide. We'll put out more info later this week.
Finally, I have to say thank you to all the volunteers this year. Your officers, chairs and race committee volunteers have done a great job. The Commodore (me!) thanks you on behalf of all the members. With your help we are having our best season ever!
Remember: all the events except for racing count towards your 2010 Cruising pennant. As always, I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at events both on land and sea.
